Villa del Lago MDZA Landscape Architecture and Planning is proud to present Villa del Lago, a prime example of creative landscape architecture in Newport Coast. Serving the communities of Corona Del Mar, Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach and Newport Beach, this vast outdoor space has been transformed into a sublime oasis harmonizing with the natural environment. During the initial consultation, our design professionals recognized the difficulties that the steep topography and rocky terrain of the site presented. To deal with these problems, a terraced garden design was implemented utilizing indigenous materials such as locally-acquired boulders and drought-resistant native plant materials. This not only helps assure stability of the operations, but also gives the site an additional aesthetic appeal, harmonizing an air of elegance with keen ecological understanding. Some of the most important attractions at Villa del Lago include the waterfall feature that serves as both a visual treatment and an aural element as well, inviting use by the owners and their guests as a place to relax and retreat. The skillfully designed hardscapes feature the use of permeable pavers, giving a durable surface to the outdoor living spaces while affording a means of proper natural drainage. The choice of materials proved to be vital. The end result is a colorful area such as is rarely seen in southern California, the native vegetation enhancing the lush, earthly surface with the added element of color and texture native to the areas.
