About This Project

Strand II: This was developed by MDZA Landscape Architecture and Planning. Strand II highlights new ideas and the best craftsmanship that comes out of Southern California. It serves the beach communities of Corona Del Mar, Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach and Newport Coast, while combining beauty with practical outdoor living. The Strand II was made to include a diverse palette of plant and hardscape materials, including drought tolerant and native species of plants, ornamental grasses and ornamental hardscapes that were precisely crafted. Using product materials of local stone, reclaimed wood, and permeable paving have added aesthetic value and sustainability claims that promote less water consumption and have enriched the landscape and maintained beautiful places. One of the initial hurdles was site elevation issues and drainage issues that were present and could have compromised the site and the overall landscape integrity. MDZA executed a complex grading plan and irrigation plan that allowed for better water flow and limits run off while maintaining the natural contours present on the site. Strand II is a beautiful outdoor space that invites relaxation and entertaining, allowing calmer areas for sitting and gathering round custom fire pits, meandering walkways and paths to discover individual nooks with seasonal color blooms. The clients were extremely happy with the ease of use of the space for functional use for gatherings, as well as an enhancement of curb appeal.
