Downtown Austin Residence Completed by GreenScapes Landscaping & Pools Located in the busy downtown area of Austin, Texas, the Downtown Austin Residence displays GreenScapes Landscaping & Pools’ ability to transform spaces through naturalistic design. This was designed as a refuge within the heart of the city, celebrating modern design while accenting the landscape with natural beauty. The design included a variety of native plants that are both lush and drought-resistant to complement the landscape, as well as improve its sustainability. We incorporated Texas sage, ornamental grasses, and flowering perennials to create lively hues and textures, producing a shifting color palette throughout the seasons. Organic pathways, made of local limestone, provided guests a way to travel through the different, personalized garden spaces. One issue we faced was the small size of the yard that most urban homes are faced with. Vertical gardening and raised planting beds were implemented to maximize all the available doors, which added additional opportunities for the homeowner to garden, while optimizing the yard’s layout. In addition, an irrigation system was installed to ensure every plant received just the right amount of water based on the size of the planting area, while limiting water waste, and producing lush results. The fire pit was the focal feature of this and was custom designed for gathering space or simply winding down for the evening. The fire pit was collaboratively constructed of reclaimed wood and stone, and is a beautiful design that elicits the natural elements of the landscape. We also installed site lighting throughout to direct focus onto special elements of the garden even into the evening, building elements of surprise for both the residents and guests alike. The end results surpassed our client's expectations. An exceptional mix of beauty, function, and sustainability turned the once ordinary yard into an extraordinary retreat.
