Synopsis: Jacobs Grant Design Ltd. - Westfield, New Jersey Home As experts in transforming exterior spaces into outdoor living environments, Jacobs Grant Design Ltd. did just that with this major renovation of a home in Westfield, New Jersey. The brief was to develop a landscaping scheme that beautified the home while at the same time creating a functional outdoor space for the family to enjoy. This included a variety of features. We designed a custom stone patio using locally harvested bluestone as a stunning family and friends gathering spot. We also created a complex garden bed around the patio filled with perennial flowering plants and colourful shrubs selected for interests in all 4 seasons and for how little maintenance they required. The thoughtfulness of the plants chosen not only helps the appearance but attracts the local pollinators to reinforce the importance of biodiversity. A main challenge we encountered was creating adequate grading and drainage of the site because of the disjointed topography of the back yard. Our team developed a complicated drainage system, for instance French drains in the site, to ensure that water could run out of the space and not build up damaging the overall site. We also built a charming pathway from the patio to the fire pit area of the yard using reclaimed brick and rustic finishes; this period features enhanced not only accessibility but the potential to discover more of the landscaped yard! The final product was a beautiful outdoor space that melded form and function with festivities in mind. The family we designed for was ecstatic their new outdoor living space, where they can escape or entertain. Jacobs Grant Design, Ltd. is pleased to have made their vision a reality with a reimagined landscape that promotes a stylish yet comfortable retreat right in the heart of Westfield.
