About This Project

Mission Viejo Residence Located in the heart of Mission Viejo, LandFluent Landscape Architecture completed a wonderful landscaping that balances sophistication and utility. The client's motivation for redesigning the residential outdoor area was to have a peaceful retreat that tied with the natural beauty of Southern California. The challenge our team ran into at the beginning was the species of an uneven slope, which we had to take careful and creative consideration of the composition of the materials to develop a layout that all worked together. We worked through a tiered garden design, utilizing natural stone retaining walls built from local granite to stabilize and add beauty to the landscape. The choice of material gives rustic charm for blending in while leveraging the durability against the elements. The planting consisted of an array of natives offering drought-tolerant succulents and flowering perennials for color and texture during all seasons. A meandering path was introduced using reclaimed wood and smooth river stones to encourage movement across the yard while creating flow. A water feature was included to enhance the experience of the outdoor area; an appealing pond that attracts critters and produces peaceful noises. Limited sunlight was an additional challenge we creatively addressed with shade-tolerant species for planting and highlighting key elements of the garden with path lights for evening activity. Our state-of-the-art irrigation system self-regulates to maximize water conservation while supporting all of the plants, which worked wonderfully with the goal of sustainable landscaping practices. The end result is an inspiring outdoor retreat that exceeds the needs of the client. The Mission Viejo Residence has now evolved to create a beautiful backdrop for family gatherings and tranquil moments to relax among the plants on display, as well as LandFluent Landscape Architecture's dedication to craftsmanship and quality. The design represents not only quality, but also a successfully built that meets the vision of the homeowner.
