Rustic Retreat Peter Bochenek and Associates, Inc. has completed a spectacular , Rustic Retreat, that seamlessly combines design and nature in Chapel Hill, Durham, NC. This landscape renovation truly embodies aspects of the natural environment while designing for functional outdoor living - a retreat space for our client. A custom stone patio, made from local flagstone, defines the Rustic Retreat and captures an element of rustic simplicity. Surrounding the patio is a natural arrangement of native plants and flowering perennials to create color and display throughout the seasons. The design also features wood trellises, crafted by hand, to allow climbing items to cover the vertical space, and attract wildlife like hummingbirds and butterflies. One aspect of the that presented some challenges was the unevenness of the property. To overcome the inconsistent layout and design, our team expertly graded the landscape and installed tiered planting beds that would improve accessibility and aesthetics. To design sustainably and less impact on the environment, we selected permeable pavers for pathways to allow the rainwater to filter down for the flora surrounding it. The final product of the Rustic Retreat is a beautiful outdoor escape that captures the rustic charm of our client. With cozy seating, informal paths, and greenery, the Rustic Retreat is an invitation to relax and enjoy nature. It exceeded the client's expectations by providing a space for solitude and gatherings, as intended.
