About This Project

Sullivan Canyon Russ Cletta Design Studio, Inc. transitioned a large hillside property into an inviting new home that incorporates the beauty of nature with the luxury of life in Los Angeles. Located in the Sullivan Canyon area, this speaks to our investment in quality and creativity in park and landscape design. The landscaping showcases a unique blending of drought tolerant native plants and green grasses, creating a sustainable yet joyful environment. Among the many special features, an elaborate stone path crafted from locally sourced flagstone winds through seasonally arranged beds of flowers designed to bloom throughout the year. A dynamic water feature including a waterfall adds to the ambiance while providing a relationship with wildlife and nature to the experience. One of the primary challenges was the steep grades, which required inventive measures to deal with the practicality of slope, stability and stepping through the grounds. We developed terraced gardens that provided planting opportunities, and where water could drain as we addressed soil erosion. Overall we used only the best materials be it natural stone or reclaimed wood, providing comfort, peace of mind, and enjoyment by reducing maintenance and prolonged use. The overall landscape is beautiful and goes beyond what the owners had envisioned with outdoor spaces for rest and recreation. A thoughtful combination of spaces for siting, with relaxing pathways between areas lit at night, and a fire pit for evening gatherings accommodates lots of year-round entertaining. In summary, this highlights our craftsmanship and commitment to design personal outdoor spaces tailored to the lifestyles of our owners.
