Highland Meadow, Shade Tolerant Client Crimson Landscape Located in the heart of Highland Park, the 'Highland Meadow, Shade Tolerant' is a clear example of Crimson Landscape’s passion for quality and ingenuity in landscaping. This enchanting outdoor space was conceived to adapt to the limited sunlight under the tree canopy of a mature tree, and revive previously neglected space into thriving, lush sanctuary. Along the way, the challenge we faced was creating an attractive landscape that would thrive in the shade. We carefully selected a variety of shade tolerant plants that would create interest and beauty in all seasons, including ferns, hostas, and astilbes. The use of dark, organic mulches also looked great, plus aided in helping to keep moisture in the soil for healthy growth. In adding depth and texture, we designed natural stone pathways and seating areas made from local materials that complement the surrounding landscape. The pathways wind through the garden, enabling exploration while providing a natural connection to the landscape. We also installed a modest water feature and fountain, enhancing the sound qualities of the area while contributing additional dimension and calming effect upon the visitor. One of the primary aspects of the that we had to address was the hilly nature of the site. Our team displayed great skill in protecting the plants by working to internal drainage structures to allow the moisture to drain correctly while preventing erosion of soil. The end-result was a highly constructed landscape that performed better than we had anticipated, which clearly exceeded the expectations of the client. This 'Highland Meadow, Shade Tolerant' is emblematic of our commitment to craftsmanship, accountability, and passion around residential or exterior landscape construction. The clients were thrilled with the outcome, and remarked on their enjoyment from the improvement of their yard, and for the space they had created to escape their home thus satiating their lifestyle.
