About This Project

Designing Sun Valley Randy Thueme Design Inc. - Landscape Architecture is excited to showcase the Sun Valley , an extraordinary transformation of a residential outdoor space located in the beautiful hills of Mill Valley. This illustrates the combination of exceptional design and level of craftsmanship we strive to provide to our clients. The Sun Valley landscape incorporates a rich palette of native California plants, drought-tolerant gardens, and refined hardscape elements, creating a tranquil retreat that pays homage to the natural beauty of the neighboring views. A custom stone patio crafted from local materials is a main attraction, providing space for entertaining while enjoying breathtaking views. Visitors make their way across the landscape through pathways with ornamental grasses and occasional boulders, allowing the lush garden beds to shine through while also complementing the balance of the structured design. One of the most challenging aspects of the Sun Valley was the steep slope of the terrain and how we could manage drainage in such a way that we did not want to create unwanted erosion with our design solutions. What we ultimately settled on was a terraced garden system solution with some retaining walls built from natural stone. In addition to the aesthetics of the terraces, this solution just makes sense! A rain garden flows into the natural landscape, further balancing the environmental partnerships with natives and the functional year-round garden. The end result is a truly stunning and functional outdoor space. The landscape blends the architecture of the home beautifully while ushering the family into a meditative escape. Each area of the space was designed and detailed through its suitable planting. Lush, productive space, to a water feature that plays soothing sounds, our goal has always been to surpass the client’s expectations. The Sun Valley is a great indication of the level of quality we uphold at Randy Thueme Design - Landscape Architecture.
