Winnetka Residence Tommy Pollina Landscape Company Inc. takes great pride in transforming outdoor spaces into breathtaking landscapes that align with their clients' vision. The Winnetka Residence was a demonstration of our commitment to value, quality, and attention to detail. Located in the heart of Winnetka, the residential landscaping was developed to complement the existing home, while highlighting its innate beauty. We faced a scheduled lot which required creative methodologies to accomplish proper drainage and maintain structural integrity. Therefore, we designed tiered gardens with an innovative locally sourced stone wall system, which helped stabilize the slope while adding an elegant rustic character. Native plants were critical to our plan in order to foster biodiversity while decreasing the need for water. We used showy perennials, such as coneflowers and daylilies, and widely spaced them to develop a colorful quilt throughout the seasons. A gently winding flagstone pathway carries clients through the garden to a serene seating area, which contains beautiful custom-built cedar benches. This area allows for a peaceful escape, surrounded by an explosion of vibrant flora and the newly installed water feature that brings tranquility to the home. In order for our client to enjoy their outdoor experience after sunset, energy-efficient LED lighting was included. Although the lighting plan represented a challenge in terms of integration into the landscape, we accomplished this by using design concepts which allowed the light to be a part of the overall outdoor context while emphasizing, not overpowering, the plant materials. In the end, the combination of function and aesthetics created an environment that delighted our client. The Winnetka Residence is now a beautiful, inviting landscape which reflects the beauty of nature and provides an opportunity to relax and entertain.
