Salmon Bay Residence Developed by Richard Hartlage Land Morphology, the Salmon Bay Residence demonstrates the harmony between nature and design in the stunning Pacific Northwest. Located in the charming community of Bainbridge Island, the landscape has transformed the site into a dynamic outdoor space for habitation, enhancing both the function and the appeal of the outdoor environment. With a robust selection of native plants, specifically selected to thrive in the local climate and support biodiversity, this exhibits a superb range of rich textures and colors utilizing ornamental grasses, flowering perennials, and evergreen shrubs to create year-round visual interest. To further promote an eco-friendly design, Richard Hartlage Land Morphology incorporated sustainable materials such as locally sourced stone for hardscaping and reclaimed wood for garden structures. A key challenge was to manage the sloped terrain of the site by creating terraced garden beds that could mitigate soil erosion and also allow breathtaking views of the bay. To achieve this, Richard Hartlage Land Morphology implemented advanced drainage, engineered terrace and retaining walls to support the landscape, while fulfilling the durability for the site conditions. The end result is an outdoor experience with spaces for living that include a custom-built fire pit space with native seating, a calming water feature supporting meditation, and meandering pathways engaging the garden. The designs used outdoor lighting elements to extend the enjoyment of these spaces both day and night. The clients are now thrilled with a beautiful outdoor living space that conveys their lifestyle and values, connecting their home with the experience of coastal living.
