Private Getaway Private Getaway FIRM: Fernando Wong Outdoor Living Design Located in a verdant, suburban pocket, here we undertook a complete overhaul of a featureless, non-functioning backyard. At the heart of this metamorphosis is a beautiful natural stone patio of locally sourced bluestone. The perfect place for entertaining friends and family, this sturdy material also blends seamlessly with its outdoor environment. We also added a clean water feature that trickles into a koi pond, which you hear as soon as you pass through the gate, and this sound drowns out the noise of everything else going on in everyday life. The layout of the original yard presented its own challenges, including a very steep hill and little to no drainage. We tackled these through a tiered design that not only provided water management at various stages, but also readied up our levels as per looks. We also introduced native plants that flourish in the local climate, so they will be low-maintenance for the homeowners and sustainable. It presents, in the end, a balanced composition of hard and softscape. The lush greenery further embraces the space with contrasting ornamental grasses and colorful flowering shrubs, and well selected outdoor lighting provides color and mood at twilight. In addition to fulfilling the clients aspiration for an oasis, the Private Getaway is a testament to the firm conviction in quality and craftsmanship.
