TYPE: Mid Century Modern Landscaping by Fernando Wong Outdoor Living Design Perched at the end of a lively street in Mount Vernon, the 'Mid Century Modern' landscaping beautifully fuses architecture and scenery, each element masterfully designed by Fernando Wong Outdoor Living Design. Working with clients throughout the US and internationally, our team took a sub par outdoor space and turned it into an incredible outdoor escape, all whilst channeling a mid-century modern flavor. This had some beautiful features; defined, geometric bluestone paths connecting different zones of the property. Native grasses and ornamental shrubs, selected to balance minimalist aesthetics with ecological function, were planted densely. An oversized fire pit encircled with custom seating for starside gatherings acts as an arresting focal point, while stones scattered around have a strategic placement, their core purpose the same one they once served, thousands of years ago: to provide an element of nature, similar to that external natural ruggedness of the epoch. To do so, the topography on site was quite uneven, so it took a lot of smart grading moves to balance the layout. Using innovative landscaping practices and sustainable materials such as recycled concrete and locally harvested timber, our team was able to troubleshoot these challenges and turn the design into a feature. The ability to align the aesthetic values of this mid-century structure with the clients' expansive vision for an outdoor experience yields an incredible outdoor environment that is both respectful of the architecture and fulfilling of the client's desire for a peaceful but functional retreat. Client is happy with a seamless integrated landscape that serves his lifestyle and compliments the home.
