About This Project

Malta Street, Highland Park Weeds Garden Design Build LLC is thrilled to showcase the Malta Street landscaping in Highland Park, an incredible example of a that connected form and function. We had the challenge of working on a slope, and we successfully devised tiered garden beds to improve drainage and promote soil retention while also adding visual interest. Working with high-quality materials such as locally sourced stone for the retaining wall, and using aged mulch for the garden beds, we ended up creating a sustainable landscape that succeeded in its ecosystem. The finished landscape had an abundance of bright native plants that require little water, including California poppies, flowers, and assorted lavender, and established a critical food source to encourage local pollinator insect populations. To balance out the abundance of green, we added a few dimensions of hardscape work in the form of a stylish flagstone pathway to guide people through the outdoor space, but also provide access to several different seating arrangements made from reclaimed wood. In this way, the client can choose a spot to sit, take in the plant life, and rest or entertain friends outdoors. Through our attention to detail and high-quality craft, we succeeded in building a landscape that met the client's plan and contributed to the charm of the block. We are thrilled with the end result of the , achieving a balance form and function that will be enjoyed for decades to come.
