A new flagstone patio, beautiful retaining wall and rain garden in the peaceful town of Nisswa wrapped up from last week exemplifies just that. The client needed a multi-purpose outdoor space that could be for entertaining, but also help fix the drainage problem in the backyard. We started with a large flagstone patio that we handpicked for its natural beauty and long-lasting durability. The bold colors of the flagstone blends with its surroundings allowing the line between house and garden to become blurred. We built a stout retaining wall from native stone to give stability and beauty to the slopes. This had two-fold function, it supported the incline as well as aesthetically enhancing the landscape. Designed to be as functional as beautiful and to coexist with the landscape instead of detracting from it, the wall needed to endure the elements. This includes our installation of a rain garden as one of the features of the to mitigate rainwater runoff. Using drought-resistant native plants that grow in the local climate to save water at the same time while improving biodiversity. Trained on data until October 2023, Our team carefully chose all of the plant varieties in bloom at various times throughout the season, maintaining aesthetic appeal and ecological harmony year-round. We met several challenges along the way both with the steppe terrain in Central Asia and the consistency of the rather indecisive weather. Yet, our well-versed team found ways, through some out-of-the-box thinking, to tackle these challenges and made sure every element of the execution was on-point. The result, a beautiful external space that not only works for the client, but enriches the landscape. The result was pretty incredible and the client is over the moon, they now have a wonderful patio to entertain on, a retaining wall to strengthen the slope behind their yard and a rain garden to infiltrate their roof water, win / win / win!
