MAKE ANAHEIM Submitted by: Matthew Beehler | CBLD In Anaheim, a new by Matthew Beehler and CBLD. The took a standard backyward and created a beautiful outdoor space that was artistic, functional, and sustainable. The team focused on sustainability and used drought-tolerant plants, including California native plants that thrive in the climate and attract pollinators. The also incorporated many hardscape features such as natural stone pathways and retaining wall systems made from local materials so that they would be relatively permanent and blend into the surrounding environment. The had some unique challenges including uneven topography. In order to create a flat prepared planting area and the recreational space, it required sophisticated grading technology to establish a level planting area. The team also had to address drainage issues, which included a more complex rain garden that would capture and filter runoff water, interplay with the aesthetics, and promote conservation. The outcome was a breathtaking outdoor space that included a wonderful water feature as a focal point with lush plants, flowers, and trees surrounding it. The organization included seating areas that were comfortable for gathering family and friends and even a little children’s area to promote activity and engagement. The clients were impressed with the transformation, sympathetic quality, and attention to detail. It provided them with soulistic ‘value’, quality of life, experience, and continuation of the natural elements. Ultimately, the increased the property’s pleasure and value as a gathering place for family and friends that they hope to cherish for years.
