Serving the communities of Aromas, Gilroy, Palo Alto, and beyond, this reimagines the client’s outdoor environment into a drought-tolerant sanctuary. The garden incorporates a pleasing combination of native and Mediterranean plants, selected especially for their ease and beauty. Bold succulents, fragrant lavender, and terrific agaves intermingle to produce a vibrant landscape that survives in dry places. The carefully selected porous pavers form elegant pathways around the yard and allow for behaving rainwater while enhancing the garden's aesthetics. One of the most significant challenges that we experienced in the was dealing with rocky ground where drainage was initially a challenge. Our talented crew was able to tear the grounds correctly and to use unique boulders which not only solved our problem but also incorporated a naturalistic element. The end result, a lush oasis that minimizes water use while retaining beautiful. The end result is a striking outdoor retreat that was designed specifically for the client’s vision of a water-efficient and low-maintenance garden, while showcasing the artistry and craftsmanship of Karen Aitken and Associates. Everyone associated has delighted ourselves with the design and established a precedent for the landscaping norm in future s throughout the region. The Mediterranean Xeriscape Garden is now a lively example of how outstanding design can produce exquisite beauty, practical purposes, and sustainable responsibility in the landscape of Aromas, Watsonville and beyond.
