Golf Course Garden Retreat In collaboration with Karen Aitken and Associates, the Golf Course Garden Retreat epitomizes landscape design in an outdoor luxury setting. The site, located at the idyllic settings of Aromas and Watsonville allowed for expansive transitional areas back to the natural environment. The native planting design relies upon species of botanicals that are native to the area and display a range of color, shape, character, growing habits, and climate trophy qualities. Paths of decomposed granite wind through the native mixed gardens; providing places for the client to enjoy the garden while relaxing in the gentle soothing garden space. An exceptional water feature as the center of attraction, constructed from natural stone with native aquatic plants and coastline edge plants invite wildlife with gentle splashing and provide soothing sound. The charm of the involved balancing functionality and aesthetics within the constraints of the existing topography. We undertook a complicated drainage plan, made complicated due to poor soil conditions, but improved soil with compost and biosolids to improve the existing soil conditions, play conditions, and dedication to plant longevity. In addition, we established an irrigation system for sustainability and low-water conditions established from native source/planting habits instead of aesthetic. The final sign of success is in the achieved blend of color, texture, and form; creating a wonderful garden escape with gentle luxuries while sequence and harmony make use of the open years in which to indulge.
