Medina Residence - Lankford Associates Landscape Architects Located in Medina, the Medina Residence by Lankford Associates Landscape Architects showcases the integration of nature and architecture. A complete landscaping implementation was created to enhance the architecture as well as the overall atmosphere of the outdoor space. The includes a multitude of native plantings with options that are resilient and have seasonal interest, combining together for a colorful display year-round. A custom stone path made of local basalt meanders along a garden by weaving in and out of flower beds and dense vegetation. This path not only creates an aesthetic connection, but it also helps direct the flow of the landscape. One of the major obstacles encountered with the involved the steep site topography. To manage this challenge, we created tiered planting beds and added a natural boulder retaining wall which stabilized the slope while lending visual interest and habitat for wildlife. A rain garden was also integrated for water quality mitigation to alleviate stormwater runoff and achieve the sustainable aspects of landscaping. To add to that outdoor experience, we installed a custom cedar deck with a sufficient threshold from the interior to outdoor living space for entertaining or quiet contemplation. An elegant water feature, designed to echo the sounds of a natural stream, became the central focus of the garden and invited relaxation and ease. Ultimately, we created a beautiful landscape which compliments the architecture of the Medina Residence and supports the clients vision for a sustainable, aesthetic outdoor space. The continuation of hardscaping and softscaping elements with durability and craftsmanship detail, sent the client into smiles and enveloped their home into a tranquil sanctuary.
