Gleadle House Landscaping by Lankford Associates Landscape Architects Located in estate-like fashion on Camano Island, the Gleadle House elevated outdoor living through its thoughtful landscaping. Lankford Associates Landscape Architects carefully reimagined the property to provide a relaxing refuge for living in and with the beauty of the Pacific Northwest, while considering aesthetics and functional outdoor spaces. Our team created a beautiful hardscape to welcome people through a warm and diverse natural stone and gravel system of pathways that lead people through the gardens and to inviting seating areas. The use of locally reclaimed basalt and granite enhanced durability and blended with the surroundings to provide a cohesive look that captures the natural character of the site. One of the main elements was the custom water feature, which provides ambience to the outdoor living area. This feature is made of natural boulders and surrounded by native plantings, creating a soothing soundscape for the experience of the landscape. In addition, we thoughtfully incorporated a mix of native plant species that include flowering ornamental grasses, shrubs, and evergreen trees, for year-round appeal and local biodiversity. The plants also enhance privacy while creating a sense of enclosure that can be part of a sanctuary. Overall, the landscape development faced the challenge of a fairly steep grade and irregular geometrics, which increased the complexity in designing level areas for entertainment and rest. Our team implemented a series of retaining walls of reclaimed wood for inspiration and structure. At the end of the day, the Gleadle House is a beautiful landscape that meets the practical lifestyle needs of the homeowners while creating an inviting setting for entertainment, living, and enjoyment.
