Underutilized Space Transformed into Entertaining Area Sherwood Landscape Lighting and Design is excited to share the Underutilized Space Transformed into Entertaining Area , which has dramatically changed the outdoor living space for a family in Moorestown NJ, as they were looking to turn an area on their property that was once ignored into a lively inviting space that they could use for entertainment, eat meals and relax. During our initial consultation, the Sherwood design team was able to determine how the area could contribute to the total function of the property, and how to optimize the overall design and flow of the space. A beautiful paver patio was the primary feature at this location which used high quality durable paving materials and provided seamless integration with the natural landscape. The paver patio is the most prominent feature of the entertaining area and provided sufficient space enough for seating arrangements, outdoor furniture and firepit area, which create a comfortable setting in the evenings with family and friends. Landscape lighting was then incorporated to improve the setting for evening use. We strategically placed the landscape lighting to establish visuals of the hardscaping features, planting and provide ambiance during evening gatherings. We only chose native species plants because they grow well in this part of southern New Jersey, followed instructions to keep maintenance to a minimum, and we were pleased to see that the homeowners chose plants that had seasonal features and eye-catching colors throughout spring, summer and fall. Leveling and grading the sloped area in underutilized space was one of the challenges which was needed for draining purposes and stabilizing the foundation for the paver patio. In addition to the grading issue, we built a small segment of a retaining wall to help define the space and prevent soil erosion. The retaining wall also provided an aesthetically appealing touch to the entertainment space. The total came out beautifully and created an ideal entertaining area that seamlessly blends aesthetics with function, creating a space that will facilitate entertaining a large number of family or friends.
