About This Project

Main Street Landscaping by Matteson Landscape Architecture Located in the core of East Norwalk, the 'Main Street' reflects the spirit of Matteson Landscape Architecture's passion for excellence in landscape design. This revitalization took a major thoroughfare and expanded the streetscape into a thriving, welcoming green space that integrates functional and aesthetic requirements for the local communities of Easton, Fairfield, Greens Farms, Greenwich, Redding, Southport, Weston, Darien, Long Island and Westchester County. The featured various landscaping elements to improve sustainability and visual aspects to enhance the area. Native plants were specifically chosen to showcase seasonal color and limited maintenance once established. Colorful flower beds, hardy shrubs and trees to create shade were incorporated to encourage pedestrian use and to give residents a comfortable and inviting space. High-quality materials were used for walkways, such as permeable paver tiles to maximize water drainage and lessen urban run off; both were especially relevant to the environmental impacts to the area. There were hurdles with the existing uneven site conditions. Their condition increased the difficulty of the drainage and made it very difficult to move through. Our talented staff worked with local civil engineers to create a grading plan applicable to the entire site conditions - recognizing that the beauty of the landscape would not have the same positive impact without maximum efficiency of flow. Beautiful benches were also incorporated along with warm and appealing light fixtures, to provide comfort and safety for strolls and gatherings. All has been well received for the final result of the Main Street by our client and the surrounding community; the newly landscaped area has become a landmark, place, and has inspired community pride. Overall, the Main Street is representative of the professionalism, function, sustainability, and beauty that Matteson Landscape Architecture prides itself on promoting outdoor spaces while respecting the unique environ where we work.
