Stallion Trail Located in the heart of Westchester County, the ‘Stallion Trail’ by Matteson Landscape Architecture captures the essence of nature and design. From East Norwalk to Easton and Greenwich, this transformative landscaping required an accessible, leisurely walking trail that meanders through diverse native plantings, organized gardens, and calming gathering spaces. The began with an in-depth analysis of the site, which asked us to consider the unique topography and existing vegetation. Matteson Landscape Architecture embraced the challenges of uneven terrain while preserving aspects of the landscape. Using only high-quality, locally sourced materials, a winding gravel path was constructed with natural stone accents to create a seamless feel. One of the exciting aspects of Stallion Trail is the extensive collection of native perennials and shrubs that not only add curb appeal, but support local biodiversity. The plants selected are all drought resistant, which effectively conserves water while also thriving in the local climate. Boulders and seating add excitement, and can also be a place to pause, relax, and reflect. Matteson Landscape Architecture faced challenges answering the management of drainage while at the same time, providing a walking experience that would be used year-round. Innovative systems, such as rain gardens and permeable surfaces were installed for improved water flow and erosion reduction. The has produced a dynamic multi-functional outdoor space that everyone, including the client, has enjoyed. Stallion Trail is a blissful place to experience a walk, picnic, or even escape to nature. Through a creative use of space, materials and attention-to-detail, Matteson Landscape Architecture has transformed not only a landscape, but a lifestyle, in the heart of Westchester County for many to enjoy - now and for years to come.
