About This Project

On the Boards by Aedan Workshop On the Boards is not a mere marketing tagline at Aedan Workshop today, nor is it just a landscaping in the heart of North Carolina; instead, it is an ideal representation of what we mean when we speak to craftsmanship and character. Created for the amazing neighborhoods that make up Apex, Carrboro, Cary, Chapel Hill, Durham, Fearrington, Fearrington Village, Gorman, Green Level, Morrisville, and Raleigh, this post remodeled a standard backyard into a magical outdoor getaway. The intent of 'On the Boards' was to achieve the balance of beauty and function with such elements as native plantings, reclaimed materials and further custom features to suit the end clients lifestyle. Ample space allowed for the creation of a multi-layered garden that uses a selection of bright, drought-tolerant plants, chosen for their yearly colour consistency and toughness. Locally sourced stone is used for pathways and retaining walls, blending in perfectly with the landscape whilst ensuring long-term viability and sustainability. It was quite a lot and one of our hurdles was the steep slope of the lot. To do this we stepped in with terracing ideas which cleverly stabilised the landscape whilst creating different spaces for entertaining and relaxing. A bespoke wooden deck paired with a lovely pergola taken the outdoor area to another level where a few people can stand and enjoy gatherings in natural shelter and comfort. We could even install modern irrigation systems but used them sparingly to minimise water wastage in an environmentally sustainable way to keep it green; too. The end result was a wonderfully cohesive landscape that merges functional spaces with the surrounding land. The happy clients now have a peaceful retreat right outside their back door filled with flowers, a soothing water feature, and seating areas. 'On the Boards' is a showcase of the craftsmanship and personalized service perfection Aedan Workshop clients have come to expect, and viewers in-the-making at homes across the Triangle.
