WORKSHOP: Perennial Planting by Aedan Perennial Planting by Aedan Workshop based in Chapel Hill, a community where art and nature meet, is a new that Aedan Workshop is proud to share with you! The goal of this is to establish an attractive perennial garden that will beautify the property, as well as support sustainability and biodiversity. We specifically planned a variety of native perennials, such as bright purple coneflowers, soft yellow black-eyed Susans, and lavender for fragrance, that will allow for year-round color and be hardy enough to thrive in the local environment. Stones were used wherever necessary to break the monotony of planting, and we aimed to use and construct these boulders to bring harmony and visual interest as well as to transition from the landscape into the garden beautifully, so we employed boulders and natural stone pathways made from locally available stone at the site. Californian plant palettes are hot right now, but great hardscaping also serves to buffer the landscape experience, adding textural and spatial depth while bringing in instrumental existing vegetation. There were many ups and downs throughout this including things like uneven ground and soil erosion all requiring creative thinking to ensure the planting can last and thrive. Our expert team adapted drainage solutions and terracing techniques that not only solved these problems but actually improved the design. The end product is a stunning, vibrant perennial garden filled with life and bursting with color that showcases the fabrics of North Carolina. The client was very pleased with this outcome, as the transition of plant life into hardscaping creates a space that provides comfort, as well as exploration.
