Set in the beautiful hills of Los Gatos, this transformed an extremely steep, rugged landscape into an outdoor paradise, with a beautiful pool integrated into the natural surroundings. The design features a custom infinity pool that disappears into the horizon, with a selection of drought-tolerant native plants framing the pool. Local stone was used for the pool coping and surrounding patio for an intentional, aesthetically-pleasing design and durability that can withstand the climate conditions. Although we did focus on drought-tolerant plants, the landscape design intentionally includes a mix of textures of grasses and colorful flowering perennials to create a lush tapestry that would attract the local wildlife and be in bloom year-round. One aspect of the that offered some challenges was the steep gradient of the hillside. This required advances in engineering to ensure the safety and stability of the design. T.H. Norton Landscape Architecture, Inc., worked with a tiered-landscaping approach using natural stone retaining walls to create flat, functional spaces for seating and entertaining. This also allowed us to develop a meandering path that moves guests from the home to the pool while maintaining the natural flow of the landscape. In the end, the finished product is nothing short of spectacular! The pool is complemented with an outdoor kitchen and a lounging area with a fire pit for gatherings at night. Light was utilized throughout the , making it functional to navigate at night and creating a stunning, enjoyable atmosphere when entertaining guests. The clients were thrilled with the transformative design, the seamless integration of the pool to the hillside, and they were impressed with the balance between the built environment and nature.
