Low Maintenance California Friendly Garden At Alford's English Gardens, Inc., we recently finished an exciting new landscaping d "Low Maintenance California Friendly Garden" that works with the vibrant Southern California climate but also requires less homeowner maintenance. Serving Cerritos, Huntington Beach, Lakewood, Long Beach, and more, our team took on this to give dedicated homeowners a functional yet sustainable and beautiful outdoor space. This opportunity began with a client consultation where we could reach a shared understanding of possible vision and lifestyle. To help build this ridiculously good garden, we proposed a series of drought resistant plants like native California sages, succulents, and ornamental grasses that would look beautiful and which would also require little or no water maintenance. Additional aspects of the garden to help with functionality included permeable walking pathways for sustainable native ecology. This allowed water to drain through the ground instead of across ground surface and added a nice rustic look. One of the hurdles was varying sun exposure and soil types. Our team began amending the soil and positioning taller plants to provide ample shade from direct sun exposure to sun-sensitive plants. We also installed an efficient drip irrigation system with watering to soil base of plants, targeting water directly to roots of grass, thus holding the soil between occasional watering. The end product is a beautiful garden that uniquely highlights California flora with very low or no maintenance. The client was excited the balancing act of styling the aesthetics alongside practical gardening, with gorgeous blooms and lush green plants and grasses. This was a great example of quality craftsmanship combined with sustainable gardening practices allowed to flourish and could remain reflected on in venue within the community.
