Summary: Stairs & Entryways by Whispering Hills Garden & Landscape Design Center At Whispering Hills Garden & Landscape Design Center, we strive to create the extraordinary from the ordinary, and our recent called Stairs & Entryways bears witness to the exceptional quality of our work and creativity. Serving the charming communities of Algonquin, Barrington, and beyond, we set out on a journey to enhance a homeowner’s entryway to provide function with beauty. We designed and installed a beautiful stone staircase, made of bluestone, that suited the natural landscape while being durable. Each stone was carefully cut and installed to ensure safety and ease of entry while considering the natural flow of walking from the driveway to the front door. The area surrounding the new stairs was designed with lush, easy-care perennial gardens with seasonal interest and blooms that will attract pollinators and nurture the ecosystem. One of our challenges was the challenging grade of the property. The stairs took careful design and engineering planning to ensure they would look good and be safe. Our talented team was able to reduce the steepness of the steps by adding retaining walls made of natural fieldstone, which helped stabilize the landscape in the area while adding to the external rustic charm of the stairs and entryway. The fieldstone walls also had lighting incorporated so the area could be enjoyed in the evening, providing some warmth as well. The result provided a beautiful blend of natural materials and aesthetic design that created an attractive and welcoming entrance for their home. Our clients were very pleased with their enhanced accessibility to the house and the visual impact of the new entryway!
