Provence Comes to California by Sweet Smiling Landscapes Sweet Smiling Landscapes is thrilled to report on the 'Provence Comes to California' , which has beautifully transformed the overall space and aesthetic value of the southern California property into a truly stunning representation of the rolling hills and picturesque landscape of the French countryside. The areas we served are the picturesque areas of Goleta, Mission Canyon, Montecito, Santa Barbara, Summerland, Toro Canyon, Ojai, and Ventura. The overall vision was to incorporate the charm and elegance of Provence but be successful in local zones of not only color and aesthetics but to allow plants to thrive and flourish in their own climate. The overall began with an indepth analysis of the site - from its lay and regards to the different microclimates of the site. The challenge here is a blending of the native California flora and the traditional and classic forms of the elements of Provence that we wanted to accomplish with the design goals. The goal, however, was in the aesthetics of beauty while being equitable for sustainability in the practice of stone and plant material designs. The design focused on the plantings of drought tolerant plants, especially our commons lavender, rosemary and intoxicating olive trees, as they flourish on the local scale but provide for an aromatic and beautiful landscape design. The rustic stone pathways and terracotta pots went further to create that authentic feel of European connection. Completing the design, a custom built pergola with climbing vines was an ideal solution for shade and interesting texture for the homeowners, allowing for elaxation and escape from the sun. Continuing on the water efficiency component of the design, we constructed an elaborate irrigation system to optimize water usage to give the homeowner ample time to enjoy their garden without the effort of hand watering. Throughout the evolve of the , our stonemasons and masons encountered rocky terrain and variable soils. We were very aware of each plant in assets of the landscape including the layout based on sun, shade, type of plant material and beauty perceived by the homeowner. Hence, we were deliberate, methodical and conscientious in placing the newly selected plants, and undertaking adjustments for each installation. In the end, the result was a beautiful garden with attention to fine , comfort, and placing beauty and function to the initial premise. Upon entering the garden for the first time, clients were simply amazed, with beautiful colors and fragrance of herbs, and the subtle sound of a low water feature. "Provence Comes to California" is not only a landscape design, rather, a functional upgrade to engage, Renaissance to how we have a simpler but still beautiful lifestyle.
