Hyco Lake House Renovation: A Seamless Blend of Nature and Design by Hawkins Landscape Architecture/TriadGarden Located along the peaceful Hyco Lake, the Hyco Lake House Renovation was a that shows off the beauty of work by Hawkins Landscape Architecture / TriadGarden. We were entrusted with a makeover of the outdoor areas to enhance utility and aesthetics for the families who utilize the property in the vibrant communities of Belews Creek, Colfax, Greensboro, and beyond. The elements included a complete landscaping renovation with a beautiful tiered garden design featuring flowering native plants chosen for their suitability to the growing conditions to minimize maintenance while supporting the local wildlife. A stunning collection of pathways were constructed of natural stone to connect the various areas of the property and to provide a lazy stroll through the lush landscape that perfectly harmonizes with the views of the lake. One of the most challenging aspects of the was managing the elevation changes around the property. We created a series of retaining walls using local materials to ensure long-lasting integrity as well as providing beautiful terraces embellished with colorful perennials and ornamental grasses to relieve the monotonous levels of the natural landscape. Not only did the walls add dimension and establish character, the terracing design improved drainage and helped protect the property from water accumulation and issues. We were able to include a sustainable irrigation design that enhanced the aesthetic of the garden while utilizing very little water. Functionality and usability is key to creating an outdoor experience for families and we were able to place seating areas that involved custom stone benches to encourage gathering around fire pits. The was much more than simply a renovation; it became an outdoor living area, a retreat for family time and enjoying the evenings by the lake.
