Summary: Colorful and Contemplative Completed by Sweet Smiling Landscapes Located in Montecito, 'Colorful and Contemplative' was a by Sweet Smiling Landscapes for clients from Goleta, Mission Canyon, Santa Barbara, Ojai, and the surroundings. The goal here was to create a colorful outdoor retreat for clients to both relax and contemplate. Our first step was to choose native plants of various kinds based not only on their colorful blooming but also on their biodiversity. We selected California poppies, lavenders, and a variety of succulents that bloom in subtle colors. We also made a winding path using reclaimed flagstone so that as you traverse the landscape, you would engage with the lush garden expanses. In some respects, the design of the path was intended to elevate the contemplation experience. Another aspect of the was dealing with grading and erosion on small slopes - we had to develop drainage features to avoid the loss of soil. The pathway and sloped planting beds helped with drainage as well since these features created a terraced landscape and introduced planting at varying heights. To complement the plantings, we designed sustainable wood seating to relax with others or quietly enjoy the space. Additionally, wood trellises for climbing jasmine or wisteria added shaded points to relax even more. The concluded with a remarkable landscape that blends color with calmness, and one that our client was very pleased with a purposeful landscape and sustainable landscape. The final , 'Colorful and Contemplative,' represents a commitment of Sweet Smiling Landscapes to both permanence and creativity, and we hope it will be a treasured landscape for our clients.
