Native Fun by Sweet Smiling Landscapes Located in the Santa Barbara area, 'Native Fun' is the of the site designed and built by Sweet Smiling Landscapes that demonstrates the beauty and resilience of native plants in California. This landscape was undertaken for a client in a stunningly beautiful area of Goleta, Mission Canyon, Montecito, Summerland, Toro Canyon, Ojai, Ventura. The task was to create a sustainable garden environment that works in collaboration with the environmental functions of the local area rather than artwork that interrupts them. The new design has a composition and diverse mix of native plants that are highly responsive to the microclimates and soil conditions of the area. These include California poppies, sage, and manzanita that provide a durable and colorful composition throughout the year. A drip irrigation system was implemented that conserves water while ensuring the plants are not stressed. A primary concern for the was the extreme gradient and unevenness of the property above the majority of the adjacent properties, which required significant grading and contouring. However, the culmination of planning by our team was well executed, generating tiered garden beds that improved the overall outcome while approaching soil drainage and plant health. We also constructed pathways made of locally sourced natural stone to encourage exploration and to direct visitors through the gardens. The result is a beautiful environment that reflects the qualities of the native area with an integrated suggestion of relaxation for our client amidst the beauty of the gardens and its surroundings. The functionality of a sustainable garden nicely blends both art and nature, while the gardens support local wildlife as well. Sweet Smiling Landscapes provides quality built gardens and landscaping while considering the small , especially when transforming them into a vibrant garden or sanctuary, while respecting the spirit of California's native landscape.
