Anderson Parklands

Anderson Gardens is a meticulously crafted residential project located in West Seattle, WA, designed by Rhodes Architecture + Light in 2000-2001. This distinctive development comprises four residences, with Phase I encompassing 2,660 square feet and completed in 2001, followed by Phase II, which added 5,725 square feet and was completed in 2003. The site, historically significant as the former home of Mary and Lloyd Anderson, founders of Recreational Equipment Incorporated (REI), offers breathtaking views overlooking the Olmstead-designed Lincoln Park, Vashon Island, and the majestic Olympic Mountains. The design intent was to honor the legacy of the original farmhouse while integrating contemporary aesthetics. An extensive renovation of the original house was undertaken alongside the construction of three new residences, all of which are thoughtfully arranged around a large garden dedicated to Mary Anderson, a Master Gardener. This garden serves as both a homage to her passion and a central gathering space for the community. Craftsmanship and material choices were paramount in achieving a harmonious blend of the old and new.
