About This Project

Brief: Modern Cottage by Sweet Smiling Landscapes Located in the beautiful Santa Barbara backdrop, Sweet Smiling Landscapes created a landscaping called the "Modern Cottage" that captures the spirit of modern architecture combined with rustic elements. We are proud to serve the communities of Goleta, Mission Canyon, Montecito, Summerland, Toro Canyon, Ojai, and Ventura, and our team was excited to begin transforming this area into a place for outdoor enjoyment. The involved many features, including a custom-built stone pathway curvy through beautiful flower beds leading guests to an inviting outdoor seating area. We recommended native plants that were drought-resistant, such as California poppies and succulents, while providing additional visual interest. Reclaimed wood was used for some of the raised garden beds as a warm compliment to the cottage. An important challenge we faced was dealing with the property’s uneven surfaces, which required terraces to balance the area. Our skilled team employed retaining walls built from local stone that provided structural integrity but also mended well into the surrounding property. The highlight of the is certainly the outdoor living area that includes a fire pit surrounded by natural boulders providing an enjoyable place to gather in the evening or any time to enjoy a starlit night. This resulted in a stunning outdoor getaway space that achieved the client's ideas and has proven to showcase our craftsmanship and attention to detail. The "Modern Cottage" enhanced the curb appeal of the home while also enhancing the client’s lifestyle with outdoor living which is a peaceful retreat where modern life and nature live harmoniously. Sweet Smiling Landscapes is proud of the transformation from the provided property into a beautiful outdoor living space that pleases the client and its neighborhood.
