and Description: Sunset Hill Edible Garden by Olander Garden Design Located in the center of Bainbridge Island, the Sunset Hill Edible Garden showcases Olander Garden Design’s dedication to designing long-lasting, stunning, and sustainable landscapes that contribute to their environment. The site transformed and designed a small backyard into a fertile and productive garden, where style meets function. The design incorporated a variety of vegetable beds built out of cedar from local sources, chosen for the beautiful natural look and stability. Pollinator plants and herbs were added throughout the garden to create a biodiverse and healthy ecosystem to attract bees and butterflies. Visitors are invited in by a series of winding permeable pavers so that they can easily gain access to seasonal harvests while creating an eye-catching feature that visually connects the landscape. Some of the biggest challenges we faced with the site, once we overviewed the vegetables and the design of the structure of the site, was navigating a heterogeneous topography, which led us to innovate drainage solutions to mitigate potential pooled water and restore soil quality across a hill. The team creating a rain garden installation to both slow and clean runoff to stabilize the soil and facilitate healthy plant growth. Overall, we personalized our drainage solution to address specific needs and add to the landscape's sustainability. The end result is a magnificent edible landscape that accomplishes the client's interest in producing a place to harvest produce all year and a climate to come together with family and friends~. With seating areas and trellis art around artistic pollinator boxes, the Sunset Hill Edible Garden is a new favorite place to garden or sit in relaxation~. Our care and detailed attention to the s' craft worked through detail has now pushed this vision out in growth. The very satisfied client was thankful for a place that supported the body and soul.
