Serving Santa Cruz, Monterey, and Bay Area clients, the firm took on the task of transforming an expansive estate that was covered with overgrown vegetation and outdated hardscape. The kicked off with a thorough site analysis, which let the design team understand the improvement areas while preserving the unique aspects of the landscape. The design incorporated different native plants (California Poppies & manzanita), which were instrumental in creating a self-sustaining ecosystem that matched the climate. The color and texture throughout the year were enhanced by the addition of colorful flowering shrubs, and ornamental grasses that were also included in the design. A special and prominent feature of the Monte Sereno Overhaul is the detailed stone pathway that flows through the property, which is made up of locally sourced flagstone. The pathway flows through the garden, while leading the viewers toward a beautiful water feature, which can be the focal point of the garden making a delightful noise of falling water. After eliminating obstacles such as steep sites and drainage issues, our creative solutions for grading overcame the accessibility issues while enhancing the visual elements. The final product is a dramatic outdoor landscape design that fuses to the native landscaping with scaled areas for both leisure and gathering, a new aesthetic dimension to the estate.
