Recent s >> Monroe Estate: We are excited to highlight this unique display of quality, creativity and craftsmanship with the transformation of the Monroe Estate from Folia Horticultural + Design. Located in the scenic Seattle area, the vast estate posed a number of design challenges, featuring different topography as well as a need for complementary, outdoor functional living spaces. At the start of the we carried a full-site analysis and designed our approach based on how the students showed up at that site. We incorporated natural stone pathways that weave through beautiful gardens using basalt sourced locally for a lasting look. The pathways take you to a beautiful outdoor entertainment space, including custom designed fire pit with artisan made seating to enjoy the peaceful vistas. Understanding that this home needs to look good regardless of the season, we chose a combination of native and drought resistant plantings that includes the rhododendrons, ornamental grasses, and flowering perennials that provide constant change and beauty. Not only does the inclusion and location of these plants add curb appeal to the estate, but it assists in the establishment of wildlife as well. The rear of the property had a very steep slope which proved to be one of our biggest challenges. It helped with soil stabilization, but also gives a neat cascading look and so we built tiered garden beds. We included this feature not only to add a little depth to the landscape, but also because it creates an opportunity for our clients to utilize the existing space for their dream garden. The end product is a stunning combination of beauty and usability that caught the client by surprise. The Monroe Estate presents a beautiful environment that provides a welcoming space for family functions and company any time of the year.
