About This Project

### New Seattle Contemporary House Finish: Folia Horticultural + Design Located in Highland Park right in the heart of Seattle, this modern home was revived with glee, fully demonstrating the form-giving abilities and craftsmanship of Folia Horticultural + Design. The intention for this was to incorporate contemporary architectural touches with functional outdoor living spaces to better suit the family’s lifestyle and provide great curb appeal for the property. An exceptional feature of the landscaping is the custom hardscaping Using locally sourced basalt stone, we built a minimalist, multi-level patio that brings the indoor living space outside. This space is a fantastic place to entertain, with built-in fire pit and custom, all weather seating. Natural stone both in collaboration with the home’s contemporary architecture and in withstanding the Pacific Northwest’s unpredictable climate makes sense. We then planned a wide variety of native plants suitable for the Seattle environment and the newly designed hardscaping. Selected for their seasonal interest and minor maintenance requirements, from fern to ornamental grasses to flowering shrub, each plant has been selected. This well-considered array supports local wildlife, encourages biodiversity, and looks beautiful throughout the year. The sloped nature of the property posed one of the main challenges that we got to work around as the intentional design needed to find ways of keeping soil in place and creative ways of using the space. We built a series of retaining walls from reclaimed wood that serve not only to retain the landscape but also contribute warmth with rusticity, that complements the contemporary features. The end product is an outdoor oasis that beautifully combines aesthetics with usability. The Client was very pleased with the end results and loves how their new landscape serves as a gathering space for family and friends. A lovely to have designed and built, adding that Folia Horticultural + Design touch of quality, creativity and sustainable solutions to the Seattle area (Ballard, Bellevue, Mercer Island ).
