Tuolumne Constructed by: Sweet Smiling Landscapes The Tuolumne designed by Sweet Smiling Landscapes is nestled in the lovely hills of Montecito and demonstrates balance in nature and design. This complete landscaping renovation was built to provide our client with a tranquil outdoor space that honors the natural beauty of Montecito and serves clients in Goleta, Mission Canyon, Santa Barbara, and more. The landscape includes a breathtaking combination of native, drought-tolerant plant material that is suitable for the climate, including California lilacs, manzanitas, ornamental grasses, and more, to create a lush tapestry of color and texture throughout the seasons. Sweet Smiling Landscapes also designed and incorporated sustainable features, such as a rainwater harvesting system to conserve thin resources and help nourish the landscaping. One of the challenges that arose during the Tuolumne related to the site being on varied terrain. In order to address the steep slopes on the site, the team terraced the garden bed to ensure water drainage while providing a layered, organized, and beautiful look to the landscape. Natural stone retaining walls were used to engage the hillside and add structural integrity while remaining a rustic characteristic of the design. A custom-built, reclaimed wood pergola was also brought into the to provide shaded space for gatherings outdoors. Local flag stone was used to create a pathway through the garden that invites visitors to wander freely around the ample flora and acknowledge the diversity of life throughout the garden. Ultimately, the finished product created an amazing landscape for the client and fulfilled all expectations. The Tuolumne demonstrates Sweet Smiling Landscapes' commitment to quality and innovation by creating a recognizable and luxurious outdoor living that embraces California living while serving the local eco-systems. The client is delighted by their new peaceful space for relaxation, entertaining, and the natural world.
