Small Backyard in Whitefish Bay, WI by Breckenridge Design, Construction & Maintenance Creating a small outdoor space into a relaxing oasis was the goal of this recent in Whitefish Bay, WI. Breckenridge Design, Construction & Maintenance accepted the task of designing a small backyard, maximizing its space while keeping with the overall feel of the neighborhood. The team started by contemplating the existing landscape, which had very little vegetation and an uneven grade. We created a warm, exciting space by designing a multi-level patio out of natural stone pavers, allowing guests to flow differently in and out of the patio space. Durable and locally sourced materials were used in order to provide longevity as well as marry with the home’s architecture. We also planted a billowing a garden bed with native plants to affect seasonal interest and attract local wildlife. The ornamental grasses around the perennials provided mystery and a dramatic impact while also providing sustainable landscaping. A valid point of concern for this small area was managing the drainage. Our team implemented a discreet French drain system so water would have a safe path and no longer erode the structure of the patio and gardens. The part that provided the most happiness to the client was the cozy space around the fire pit. There are comfortable places to sit, along with soft landscape lighting framing the space to encourage the potential relaxing, gathering in-year evening in their backyard. Overall the leads us the ultimate combination of use and beauty. What was once an un-used backyard space truly became an outdoor retreat that far surpassed our client’s expectations. Breckenridge Design, Construction & Maintenance done s that lead to strengthening the value of the property while enhancing the lifestyle of the client. Even small spaces can still have a large impact.
