Lincoln MCM This was completed by Melissa MacDonald, Landscape Architect, demonstrates quality design and construction in a very competitive environment. Located in Greater Boston, the residential landscape was designed with modern aesthetics, while still accommodating the natural beauty and specific topography and climate of the surrounding neighborhoods, including Arlington, Cambridge, and Wellesley. The showcased an impressive multi-level garden that seamlessly combined native plantings with modern hardscape. Considerations for sustainable materials were a key aspect of the . The use of locally sourced stone for the retaining walls and pathways not only ensures longevity but also reduces impact on the environment. The design created the opportunity to incorporate an organic garden, which promoted biodiversity and provided the client with room where they could grow their own vegetables. The management of the slope of the property remained a significant challenge throughout the process. However, Melissa and team thoughtfully designed tiered terraces that not only mitigated drainage issues, but also created attractive layers of green space. Through a thoughtful process of evaluating plants (perennials, and ornamental grasses), the design achieved four-season interest, while still being durable to the New England climate. The end result was a beautiful outdoor experience that fulfilled the clients desire and needs. The gardens were enjoyed through quiet seating areas, a fire pit, and paths that encouraged exploration. An overall wonderful blend of function and aesthetics. The client enjoyed a beautiful outdoor respite on their property that added value to their home, and enrichment to their life.
