Grub to Glam Grub to Glam is the exciting landscaping that David J Frank Landscape Contracting Inc. was proud to implement for a discerning client in the city of Milwaukee. The involved a full transformation of an under-utilized backyard. It went from being a boring field of grass to beautiful, usable outdoor space! The featured the perfect mixture of native plantings, beautiful hardscapes, and sustainable materials. First, we removed invasive plants and poor soil to amend and build a framework for an abundance of fresh, vibrant plant material. Drought-resistant plants were then chosen, largely ornamental grasses and colorful perennials to provide interest and diversity year-round. A stunning stone patio was also installed from locally sourced bluestone. It provided outdoor gathering spaces that were both durable and beautifully finished. A custom built fire pit with seating wrapped around gave the clients a welcoming element that invited friends and family to enjoy their outdoor evenings. One of the most significant challenges to overcome was an abrupt slope at the back of the property. Erosion was becoming a concern, also the steep slope hindered accessibility. Our solution was to devise a tiered garden that included retaining walls made from reclaimed wood. This not only provided stability, it also gave a rustic appeal that felt practically right at home within the surrounding landscape. Landscape lighting was installed as a final touch. It draws attention to some of the features within the garden and provides the capability to enjoy the space both day and night! We created a stunning transformation that delighted our clients and provided a relaxing refuge in their very own back yard. Grub to Glam was a testament to our craftsmanship and quality design.
