Statement: EQUESTRIAN MEDITERRANEAN The Equestrian Mediterranean , delivered by Roy Altaras Landscape Design and Build, is a stunning realization of elegance and utility in landscape design. Located in Los Angeles, this was designed for a private estate situated at the farthest edge of the city limits, the clients requested a calming outdoor space that recalled the serene beauty of Mediterranean landscapes while incorporating equestrian elements. The design is comprised of fabulous drought-resistant plants in the form of fragrant herbs & flowering shrubs chosen for their hardiness to a Mediterranean climate. A winding, natural stone path to the large riding arena is enveloped in lush, manicured hedges providing visual and physical separation to this portion of the property. Elements of reclaimed terracotta tiles in the courtyard space provide genuine Mediterranean character while still complementing the plant material. The had its fair share of challenges, including managing uneven grading and minimal irrigation. Our team rose to each occasion by creating a level landscape with a sophisticated irrigation system that celebrates sustainability and water conservation. The elegant, black wrought iron fence adds refinement to the while enclosing a rustic charm for the estate. The beauty of this nature or practical use is now one beautiful oasis; with a delightful courtyard space to sit, an inviting water feature, a pleasing garden explosion of color, and an overall ambience for relaxing with family and friends. The clients are extremely pleased with their bustling outdoor space that meets the needs of a functioning estate, and enjoy its use as a retreat.
