Backyard Restoration by Pleasant Landscapes Pleasant Landscapes is thrilled to present our newest the “Backyard Restoration.” The design turned a dull backyard into an oasis right in the middle of Charleston. As with our previous , this was designed for a client that was very discriminating in their needs. They wanted a backyard that could entertain all of their extended family and one that could simply enjoy evenings together with family. Once Pleasant Landscapes set to work we had a site assessment. We found a very uneven yard with very little green. Our team accepted the challenge and went straight to work leveling off the yard. We built lovely raised garden beds out of cedar and selected plants that are native to the area: azaleas, ferns to make the yard look natural, but outdoors and easy to take care of. The main feature of the design is a stone patio built out of local flagstone. It is attention-grabbing and a great adds an entertaining area to the yard. Next, we think there should be a transition from the yard to the patio, so instead of a wooden deck or path, we created a path of ornamental grasses leading to the patio. Lastly, we put in an irrigation system to support the plants while saving water. Since most of Pleasant Landscapes’ work is sustainable, we thought that we would implement sustainability in this design as well. There were several obstacles to complete this . The biggest obstacle was drainage for the rainwater run-off that the design created, so we implemented a French drain to alleviate any drainage issues from the patio and surrounding features, or topsoil run-off. When we shared the finished with our client, they were awed at how the final outcome turned out. It was the right blend of natural & modern with functional outdoor entertainment and living. The backyard truly becomes an oasis for our extended family to enjoy.
