Permeable Driveway COMPANY: Greenwise Organic Lawn Care and Landscape Design Permeable Driveway Location: Chicago, IL (Chicago Metropolitan Area) Company: Greenwise Organic Lawn Care and Landscape Design Info: Greenwise Organic Lawn Care and Landscape Design recently completed this eco-friendly driveway lifter, replacing a traditional driveway with a green crown. With this in mind, we purposefully designed not only with sustainability in mind, but with our clients too, from Deerfield to Wilmette and with all those who live in between. Given the quality of these permeable pavers and their ability to treat stormwater runoff, they were chosen for this . We had blended natural stone with recycled material that is not only durable but also looks good and blends well with the overall setting. The aggregate spaces were carefully placed long the quads and would allow rainwater to permeate through its surface to restore groundwater and reduce chances of flooding. A big challenge we had to overcome was the existing drainage problems of the area, which meant it was mandatory to develop something that could on top of everything look nice, but also be a great-performing solution when we tested it on a real heavy rain conditions. We graded the site with extreme precision so that the water flows the way it needs to and does not pool. We included native plants at the driveway side, advancing the green element of the as well as promoting local diversity. We were then able to create a beautiful permeable driveway for the client that was above and beyond what they had envisioned! The result for the homeowner represented the perfect balance between functionality and aesthetics, with a driveway that is now both a useful and sustainable addition to the overall landscape design.
