Design Honors The 'Design Honors' is a fine example of our commitment to landscaping excellence in the communities of Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Isle of Palms, and beyond. This exceptional landscape upgrade was designed for a client who had a desire to improve their outdoor space in a way that would create a warm, inviting, and balanced landscape fitting with the historic charm of the area. The design process began when we performed a thorough site analysis to identify site features and challenges; site challenges included the slope of the site and existing plant materials. To address the elements of the site, we implemented a tiered garden, featuring stone-faced retaining walls sourced locally, as an excellent approach to not only provide the structural requirements for the slopes but also bring that rustic character to the landscape. Because our goal included sustainability and longevity, the use of native plant materials was paramount; therefore, we established an eclectic collection of flowering perennials, ornamental grasses, and evergreen shrubs, capable of providing seasonal interest. The centerpiece of the landscape is a custom patio made of top-tier bluestone, intended to serve as a location for gatherings while still being functional. Added soft landscape lighting to light the pathways and key features throughout the garden space became an additional opportunity to create beauty in the garden, while providing a magical backdrop in the evenings. Throughout the , we were able to overcome challenges associated with contemporary demands that blend the historical context of design considerations. Our materials and design motifs were chosen to be compatible with the historic buildings in the area that define Historic Charleston, and we consider the results to be both modern and timeless. Upon completion, the client complimented us for both the visual appeal as well as the design's capacity to promote biodiversity and sustainability. This illustrates our dedication to fine artistic craftsmanship in both product selection and craftsmanship in landscape architectural methods, offers an outdoor sanctuary to rejuvenate the soul, and simply invites enjoyment for many years.
