SMALL GARDEN | CROWN OF GOLD Completed by FineLines Design Studio Situated at the busy heart of the neighborhood, the small garden d 'Crown of Gold' reflects the beautiful outdoor spaces FineLines Design Studio creates for its clients while providing functionality. Located in the design-friendly city of Carrollton, this small garden demonstrates the artistry and precision our team brings to designing landscapes throughout the Dallas area including Coppell, Highland Park, and Plano. The started with a dream: taking a small and uninspired outdoor area and converting it into a texturally rich sanctuary that clients could enjoy day and night as one of the smaller backyard escapes. A key challenge was working with limited space to ensure a warm and inviting outdoor area that would feature flora and fauna as design elements. Our design team strategically offered vertical gardening solutions with trellises and wall-mountd planters to stack the vegetation so wall space could be filled with greenery as opposed to outward space. The crown jewel of the garden is a round patio finish with a durable, sustainable, eco-friendly porcelain paver system in a wonderful 'gold' color, hence the 'Crown of Gold.' This beautiful garden space is defined by a custom, handcrafted fire pit to enjoy evenings placed beneath a gathered, starry sky. To soften the edges of the circle of pavers and introduce a sun-friendly palette and content to the garden we designed and added orgaically to grow an assortment of native plants that are both attractive and supportive to each other when planted together. We utilized colorful daylilies, fragrant lavender, and an assortment of succulents as features and both ensured year-round visual interest while enjoying the functionalities of a no-maintenance experience. To up the ante for the garden, we as the designers added strategic, understated landscape light fixtures illuminating plantings, pathways, and the paver patio during the dusk and after the sun went down; enabling the owners to get more grand-daughter time in nightly while having the light of the fixtures add to the spectacle created by the garden itself. Likewise, our engineering approach to all of the designs utilized an irrigation improvement plan to support any drainage issues as plant life was designed to optimize the water flow, while promoting the health of the plants and minimizing erosion. The result is a magnificent small garden supporting not only the aesthetic of the client but the overall value of the property. The 'Crown of Gold' has served as the appreciated gathering place for family and friends where the landscape brings pieces of nature together with design to serve and highlight the lifestyle for the owners with their outdoor space.
