Mature Garden by Natalie DeNormandie In the heart of Wellesley, the 'Mature Garden’ by Natalie DeNormandie represents a beautiful blend of nature and design. This garden renovation was intended to transition a largely neglected area into a colorful outdoor retreat for relaxing and entertaining. A significant benefit to the garden is the use of native plants, selected for their local climate tolerance and role in supporting biodiversity. Plants such as coneflowers and black-eyed Susans were selected as colorful perennials with seasonal interest. Ornamental grasses and evergreen shrub material were implemented into the design to facilitate the texture and structure of year-round interest. A few challenges were present on the site, notably the poor soils and topographical change. To remedy this, we used terracing with natural stone boulders mined locally. This process aided in proper drainage, and also provided more planting locations to enhance the overall design. An inviting flagstone pathway was installed into the garden for guests to explore and discover the elements of the garden while maintaining ADA accessibility. The flagstone is from a high-quality quarry source, and the tones of the stone are meant to blend into the woodland character of the landscape. A serene water feature composed of a recirculating stream, with native aquatic plant species, provides rest for the ears while creating a natural habitat for wildlife. The end result? A stunning Mature Garden that accomplishes the client's vision and exceeds their expectations, all while providing a vibrant retreat in nature that increases the value of the property. The client was thrilled, and satisfaction of quality, attention-to-detail, and the thoughtfulness of bringing the garden to a higher level of charm, made them excited to enjoy their dream garden. Natalie DeNormandie is continuing to learn her craft and provide quality outdoor spaces in the greater Boston region, all with sustainability, care, and pride in her outdoor designs.
