About This Project

Harvard Net Zero Energy Landscape designer Natalie DeNormandie, well known for sustainable landscapes, completed Harvard Net Zero Energy, a major innovate shift in sustainable landscaping that exemplifies balance between ecological operations and social construct for the communities of Acton to Woburn, Massachusetts. Working to combine native plant species and functions such as water conservation and diversity, and installing permeable or porous paving stones to effectively bust winter and stormwater runoff for aesthetic outdoor environments, reclaiming and upcycling materials such as salvaged wood and rocks to add rusticity to the operation and limit waste to landfill while containing some embodied carbon temperature. The challenge of being on an uneven site with poor soil also required further engineering and soil amendment operations, but ended with a lush and thriving landscape, including native flowering plants for pollinators and creating a lot of energy for positive community outdoor environments for stability and liveliness. The final product being a beautiful landscape sanctuary that not only capped the ideals of sustainability but beauty with an herb garden with drip irrigation for fresh produce with not only conservative water usage, but energy-efficient outdoor lighting for evening safety and outdoor use. Harvard Net Zero Energy not only fulfilled the expectation of the client with this landscape remedies, but provided a peaceful retreat to their values of stewarding the environment, while regionally known landscape designer Natalie Denormandie worked on sustainable landscapes, through operation of the and community impact for a in the future.
