University Area Landscaping by Waterwise Landscapes Incorporated Waterwise Landscapes Incorporated is thrilled to share our current , the University Area. This landscaping initiative is a complete transformation that illustrates our commitment to quality and innovation. Located in the center of Albuquerque, this involves developing a large outdoor space surrounding the local university to improve its appearance and utility. In the beginning, Waterwise Landscapes was able to analyze the site in detail so our team could identify landscaping issues, such as uneven grade, drainage, and lack of biodiversity. We then created a tiered native plant garden to address those issues. The degree garden honors the area’s climate and takes advantage of minimal irrigationperfect for a water-saving community. The University Area includes a beautiful variety of xeriscaping elements such as colorful rock gardens and strategically placed boulders that work with the existing landscape. In addition to layering the landscapes, we filled the planters with drought tolerant plants such as lavender, desert marigold, and ornamental grasses to create seasonal interest with color and texture. As part of the , we installed a permeable paver system for walkways and social spaces to help with proper drainage and reduce runoff. This continues to be a sustainable solution that improves the area’s aesthetics while supporting the ecosystem by allowing rainwater to seep back into the ground. During the , Waterwise Landscapes worked to accommodate local wildlife habitats, as well as adhere to local environmental concerns and regulations. Through collaborative effort working with ecologists, Waterwise Landscapes was able to customize the area to be attractive to humans, and the plantings to be sustainable while meeting environmental concerns. The potential of the space is extraordinary. Students, faculty, and visitors have all been thrilled with the upcoming area’s landscape. The University Area has created a social hub for the university community to use as an area to gather. The community now has shaded seating, vibrant planters, and signs that educate native plants and water conservation information. Our clients have provided positive feedback and shared that Waterwise Landscapes did more than just meet their expectations to create a lasting legacy of water conservation involvement in the university community.
